The aim of this study is to explore the dimension of tobacco use and its relationship with development of mouth ulcers.
Cross-sectional health camps through community outreach were organized for a previously unscreened population of the Braj region in Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 2053 individuals were screened for their common health related issues in 20 camps covering four districts. This study concluded that substantial population of the region, more so in young age group was using tobacco in either form. Despite certain policy efforts, the prevalence of tobacco consumption has not decreased over time. Effective measures and proper advocacy needs to be taken to control the tobacco menace in India, urgently.
