FAQ's
1. Is Vitiligo treatable?
Vitiligo is treatable but the treatment of this depends upon the stage of vitiligo. If it is diagnosed in its early stage then it can be treated fully. If not shown to a doctor at the right time then there are less chances going back to the original skin colour. It depends on the types of vitiligo (Segmental and Non-Segmental) whether it is treatable or not. It also depends on the disease that sometimes causes or is the effect of vitiligo. A person with vitiligo is more likely to have another autoimmune disorder, such as thyroid problems, etc. Most people with vitiligo do not have these conditions, but tests can be done to rule them out.
2. I have acute acne problem. What should I do to get rid of them?
Acne is mostly common in adolescence. Acne is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. So, the face should be clean and oil free, hygiene should be taken care off, no use of makeup, regular shampoo and not much oil on hair and if done then it should be just for 5-10 mins. Meeting a dermatologist is important because there are many types of acne and the treatment depends on the type. No medicine should be taken without consulting a doctor.
3. I am suffering from hair fall. Please help me prevent this problem.
It depends on the hair fall type, and whether it is hormonal and/or genetic. First meet the dermatologist and get a check-up like hormonal, beautician, vitals, etc. Don’t fall for fake advertisements. There is hair pull test which tells the loss of hair and another is trichoscopy through which the doctors can see the scalp.
4. Is PCOD Life threatening?
PCOD is not a life threatening disease. It can be improved by life-style modifications. People with this problem should meet a dermatologist and endocrinologist. There are many implications on skin, hair, stretch marks, pimples, etc. Dermatologist checks hair fall, irregular periods and excessive growth of facial hair. During the test if the dermatologist sees PCOD in reports then they refer the person to an Endocrinologist.
5. I have both dandruff and pimples? What treatment should I take and what changes do I need to make in my food habits?
Firstly, do an evaluations check-up. There are two types of dandruff, Sebopsoriasis dandruff and Pityriasis dandruff. Sebopsoriasis dandruff leads to a lot of patches of dandruff and pimples, so there is a yeast infection. You should do regular head wash and use shampoo which have Ketoconazole and Zinc Pyrithione. Avoid oiling because it blocks the glands. Do not use any product which blocks the oil glands. Avoid the use of cosmetic, high calorie food, sun, keep your face dry and limit the use of soap on face. Stay healthy and meet a dermatologist. Sometimes medicines cause a reaction leading to pimples.
